good catch, Liberty. Thanks for the pics. I have bid on 20 or so listings, and have lost them all. Ofcourse, I am a cheap bidder, so I do not win often. I bid at spot and no higher including shipping.

My current view is to just stay away from eBay - too high of a chance for problems, fakes, rip-offs, mis-described coins, etc., etc. But I did bid on a few small-dollar items (all $15-$20 or less), and have never won anything. Much like you, I only bid a little below spot (including shipping), and someone always pumps the bid up over spot (which I don't understand) - sometimes well over. With a little time and patience (and I see it as fun!), I can score silver all day long under spot at local coin shows, and then I see what I'm getting, don't have to wait, and don't worry about getting screwed (I can even weigh the stuff). So why would I pay MORE for silver from eBay??

I just picked up some 90% (including a nice walker, which I gave to my fiancee 'cause she liked it - now THAT'S love!) for about 40% UNDER spot, and a couple of Mexican Onzas for about $9 each (about 30% under spot). The Mexican coins are very cool - I am really looking to get my hands on one of the newer Libertads next - gorgeous coins. But I like these Onzas (a 1980 sterling and a 1986 .999) very much - to me, they're as cool as a Maple Leaf or something similar. I really like the edge lettering too.

I also find that shipping costs to order silver online (eBay or APMEX or whatever) end up ruining the deal. Maybe if you order a whole bunch and get free or flat rate shipping.

If you keep your wits about you, you can do well on ebay. Just don't buy 10-1oz GAEs from a seller with 12 feedback, all as a buyer of $1 items in the past 2 weeks. I've got around 60 PM purchases, one rip and I got that money back.

Eyeofliberty seems to have the bug bad, looks like he's landing something every other day, like those African silver elephants and the kiwi.

Thanks, for the heads up on that complete Britannia set by the way (not to mention not bidding against me), I've got that coming.

I've only been screwed once, early on, buying counterfeits from China. I try to keep standard bullion purchases on eBay within $1 over spot. I don't bother bidding on SAEs or Maples, people pay WAY too much for these on eBay. As for things like Lunars, Kookaburas, Britannias, Pandas, etc., if I can get them for under or equal to what I would pay APMEX or Lone Star to get them, I'll do it.

And then there's the specialty stuff, like the elephants and the kiwis. Those are generally hard to come by, so I will pay premium for them.

Enjoy that Britannia set, Tom. They're super-sweet! Question: How the hell do you get the coins into those Dansco albums?

What a coincidence, my one rip was a Chinese dealer too. Who would ever believe it, I mean what are the chances?

I'm trying to figure out how to type with a sarcastic tone.

I'm sure there are some honest Chinese sellers but it would be like having to swim a mile through shark infested waters to get to them. Who needs it?

Good find! I have not found a good ebay deal in a while and I have been looking. I gave in and just bought a 100oz bar. I used to find dozens of great deals on gold and silver all under spot shipped. Not in awhile though.

After Bullionairre's thread report that s/he was told by a credible large refiner that their experience is 1-in-40 drilled & filled c-ounce Engelhard bars, I don't think I'd touch one unless I could get it for about a 50 oz. price.

The 1-in-40 report of filled bars that will pass a "ring" test scares me - and I'm not afraid of anything!
